CHUR, SWITZERLAND TO INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA via LEICHTENSTEIN

Chur is the oldest city in Switzerland and has been controlled by everyone at one time or another in its 5000 year history because of its strategic location. There are at least 25 ski resorts within easy reach including Davos and St Moritz. A form of German is the common language.

The Old City is practically car free.

LEICHTENSTEIN

A small state sandwiched between Switzerland and Austria. Back in the old days the Duke managed to negotiate independence. In many respects the State relates to Switzerland.

The castle.

The Rathaus. What a great name for Council offices!

INNSBRUCK - AUSTRIA

We tunnelled our way from Leichtenstein towards Innsbruck - literally. One tunnel we drove through was 15km long. I can't imagine how they ventilate such a tube. Boy, was I happy to get out of there. In total we must have driven 30 km underground. You have to hand it to the engineers and others who created them. There were long curves along the way. How did they know where to put them?!!

At the end of the long tunnel we had a Toll to pay. No receipt was issued so don't know how much it cost us. There were plenty of vehicles using it, not much choice really, so can't imagine it being too much - will find out later!
