Cathy spent a lot of time preparing for this trip.
There were severe doubts that we would be able to go as she was waiting for an operation which had to be postponed twice. She had been diagnosed with a lump on her duodenum and the Medical experts advised us not to go to France as planned on May 20th.
This was a set back as, at that time, we had a potential buyer for our house in Guemene and arrangements had been made with them, the real estate agent and a solicitor for meetings a week after arrival. As it turned out the sale fell through as the 'buyers' bank refused to approve their loan. Apparently the extra money they needed to bring the house up to modern French environmental standards was too much.
After many tests a decision was made to do the surgery endoscopically i.e. via the throat. This involved a different surgeon, who himself needed surgery in August and delayed the operation at that time.
The operation was finally carried out on Oct 23rd. Successfully enough that we decided to proceed with the trip starting 4 Nov. with the support of the doctors.
