LE TOUR DE FRANCE

At midday I was thinking "Me and my big mouth saying what wonderful weather we have been having". It was sheeting down!

(The rubbish hasn't been collected for a while either - not a happy outlook)

However things got better. I couldn't get near where I had planned to stop as the roads were all barricaded well in advance but the spot I ended up in could hardly have been better. The Tour starts with a cavalcade which goes on intermittently for 2 hours.

Gifts are thrown down to the spectators from Advertisers vehicles. I managed to pick up three items although I missed a whole lot more as my hands were full of camera, umbrella and food bag!

Then comes the action. First helicopters.

Then the leading pack of bikes.

After that comes the "Pelaton" or "Just about everyone else pack". Hundreds of them!

which then plunged into the bend to the left of where I was standing.

Within seconds it's all over and they've gone apart from the support vehicles.

And I got home quick enough to watch our boy Cadel Evans take the stage by inches from the favourite, spanish rider Contador. So we put the flag out!
