RENOVATIONS PROGRESS 2016

TROC PUCE (FLEA MARKET or CAR BOOT SALE)

The French in Brittany and probably everywhere else, love their Troc Puces. They advertise them widely and people turn up in large numbers. Everyone looking for a bargain or something they see a use for. As far as I can make out it's nearly all rubbish and nobody seems to sell anything. Some of the vendors we have seen at other locations. There is no way anyone is going to get rich doing this, except maybe the food stall holders, so it must be a social event. They are there all day.

When I first saw this couple I thought Ugh Oh, but they were very good playing renditions of Everly Brothers, Beatle numbers etc.

It turns out they are an English couple, Stevie J and Sue (Youtube and Facebook: Stevie J Kramer) and here is Cathy chatting with them after their hour long gig and securing their details to pass on to our local pub. It was Stevies 54rd birthday that day, 3rd July.

This is our prize purchase, a sturdy little side table which cost us all of one Euro! Looks good after a lick of paint?

Impressed by the mural on this water tower. The French go to a lot of trouble beautifying what otherwise would be a blot on the landscape.

Another sample of beautification. The windows of this otherwise vacant shop have oversized quality photographs on vinyl hanging in them. There are quite a few shops in Guemene given this treatment. Like many small towns anywhere the shops can't compete with the large stores just out of town and the whole place begins to look sad.

Another horse riding lesson. Hercule thinks this is great. No pressure!

RENOVATIONS

Relocation of sewerage pipe to allow a built in cupboard to go in the room behind the wall on the right.

A simple wish to move all timber and rubbish from house 3 to the annexe of the ruin next door in order to minimise fire hazard led to attention being drawn back to this fire place which looks to be on the verge of plummeting through the floor to the room below.

Safe for now. The beam in the middle has nowhere to go. Next years problem! Also the timber abutments holding up that cross beam go right through the wall and are completely rotten. Again next years job.

Look at the size of the hearth stones. We are one storey up here!

A couple of finds we had forgotten we had. We have four ceramic (butlers?) sinks like the one on the left and a ceramic shower base. Looks like car boot sale material! Yes, the green stuff on the walls is mould. More work needed there down the track.

Any old iron? This used to be a timber working place and there were metal machine parts which I hung on to initially as I thought they would be useful. All gone to the tip now - those days are gone!

New double glazed windows freshly painted. The handrail to stop people falling into the chasm, still to be painted, can be seen to the left next to the ruin.
