ORCHESTRAL CONCERT - PLOERDUT

FESTIVAL OF COMMUNES - PLOERDUT - 29 JUN 2013

We attended a concert with Jan and Ian in Eglise Saint Pierre, a church which has stood in this place in some form since the 11th century, at Ploerdut about 8 Kms from Guemene .

I didn't have a camera on the day so you have to imagine an orchestra of about 40 players all around the pulpit. The accoustics were phenominal.

The Symphony Orchestra of Brittany were playing and Solenne Paidassi played the lead violin in Mendelssohns: Concerto for violin no 2, en mi mineur, OP64. which lasted 26 mins.

I had never been to an Orchestral concert before. I was really taken in by the experience and Solenne (photographed here with Darrel Ang the conductor, who comes from Singapore) was incredible. I'm sure we are going to hear a lot more of her.

VIDE GRENIER (EMPTY THE ATTIC SALE) AT PONT SCORFF

Cathy with Ian and Jan, friends of Gails and staying at her place, now friends of ours, in the car park for the Vide Grenier.

A section of the sale with stalls. Difficult to get a decent shot.

While the ladies are busy, Ian and I take a wander around the town of Pont Scorff. The town is built overlooking the river Scorff (our river). The river is much wider here as it is nearer the coast.

There is an art exhibition under way and this is one of the exhibits - body face down in the pond carved from wood.

Going into the church for what looked like a christening.

The old Roman bridge which gives the town its name.

Couldn't resist this rose growing near the Salmon measuring station.

GUIDEL PLAGE AND ACROSS THE FERRY TO POULDU.

The destination Pouldu is in the background. The trip costs 1euro and saves a lengthy trip by road.

A farmhouse at a walking distance from Pouldu which is the subject of a famous Gauguin painting. (Plaque on wall to left)

The return ferry trip. Guidel Plage in the background.

LUNCH AT THE TROIS MARCHANDS

This tavern is one of the most ancient in Brittany. It has had the same name since 1648. They are well known for their French fare.

Our four course meal with a litre of wine came to about 12 euros a head!

After lunch. Ever seen oak beams like these?!

Guemene - sur - Scorff from close to the pub. Gails shop just visible at bend.

The cathedral ceiling at the front of our house now insulated with 120mm batts and space age (15 layers) silver lining. Beams painted white and cross braces elevated to avoid banging the head when on the mezzanine. The environment feels good!!
