My sister Sue and Cathy on Sues verandah of her new apartment overlooking the Marina at Portishead, near Bristol in the West of England.
This is her view. Building is underway to the left in the background
Cathy and Sue across the lock from her apartment building.
Sues daughter Sarah preparing a flower arrangement in her shop in the village of Portishead.
We are sitting in a pub made from shipping containers! watching a lifeboat being launched after having its bottom cleaned.
We took a trip into the city of Bristol and had a cruise on the docks.
Here is "The Matthew" a replica of the ship which took John Cabot across the Atlantic in the 1400's to 'discover' NewFoundland in Canada although it is known that ships had been going there from Bristol years before for the fishing. Alongside it is the SS Great Britain which was the first ocean going steamship (designed by Brunel famous for his other creation the Bristol suspension bridge among other things) and was rescued from the Falkland Islands where it had been abandoned.
There is a museum nearby. I'm standing alongside Georges Brewery paraphanalia. Dad worked for this company for years. It was taken over by Courage Brewery which has now moved elsewhere. Bristol has a rich History as a centre of slave trading, aircraft manufacture and many other events.
Another historical event. This steam ship "The Mayflower" - 150 years old on this day. In the background are the twin towers of the cathedral with the university tower in the middle.
Sues son John, his wife Karen and their two boys Harrison 9 on the left and Maximus 6 on the deck behind their house in Portishead.
Sunset from their deck.
Sue with Sarah and her daughters Emma 17 left and Lucy 14. Sarahs husband Phil, is unfortunately upstairs in bed not feeling well.
With friends Hillary and Pat Ogier.
